The Student Union fee

How much is the student union fee?

The student union fee is 200 SEK for full-time students from 2010-07-01. Read more about your fee under the link Student Union Fee.

Why must I pay the student union fee?

No

What does the fee do?

The student unions main task i to watch over your education and make sure it is up to standard. Beyond this, the student union provides a number of services to help your study-social situation. This includes help if you have problems with teachers och harrasment for example, whant student discounts and do sports and leisure.

How do i pay the student union fee?

 You pay the fee via a bank or credit card in our online accommodation system. The fee can also be paid in the student union reception.

When do i pay the fee?

You pay every semester.

I am alradey member of another student union. Must i still pay this fee?

Yes, but you get a discount of 50 SEK if you can prove that you are have another student union membership.

I have interrupted my studies. Can i get my money back?

No, unfortunately you cannot.

Your student card and discounts

What is the student card?

The student card is your identification at the University of Gävle. This along with photo-id identifies you when you take examns or visit student pubs.

Can i get student discounts with the student card?

Yes, your student card gives you discount on a number of different things in Gävle like movies, travels, a gym pass och a haircut. See more under the link Discounts.

How do i recieve the travel discount?

For your student card to be valid for travel discounts with SAS/SJ you must study at least 75% under 15 weeks. Please contact the student union for more information.

If you have not yet recieved your student card and still wish to travel with discount, please visit the student union reception.

When do i recieve the student card?

We order your card after you have payed the student union fee. The student cards will be sent to your address usually within 4 weeks.

I´have no SAS/SJ discount logotype on my student card, why not?

You might not be a full-time student. If you are, please contact the student union reception and we will help you.

I have lost my student card. What do i do?

Accommodation

How do i apply for accomodation?

You apply through our online accommodation system. You must register an account and seek a suitable apartment.

You must meet the 2 following criteria for your application to be valid:
1. Your accommodation fee must be paid.
2. You must prove that you are a student at the University of Gävle by register your letter of admission with us.

How do i register my letter of admission?

You can mail/email us a copy of you letter of admission. You can also show it to us at the student unioni reception.

How do i know that my application is valid?

Login to your account and klick om the link Bostadskö. Here you can see if your fees are paid and if your letter of admission is registered. You can also find out your place in the que for the apartments you have applied for. 

I have paid the accommodation fee, but when i log in it says that have not paid. What happend?

There are two probobal reasons. Either you did not pay or paid to the wrong account, or you might already have recieved an apartment. Check your account and mailbox.

When and where can i get my kees?

The student union reception handles all keys and can be found at the university campus in the house called Midgård. Regular opening time is Monday-Thursday 10pm to 3 pm, and Friday 10pm to 2 pm. If you are unable to visit us during these hours, please contact the reception.

What do i need to get my keys?

You must sign out your keys in person, and you need to bring a photo-id.

I have offered an apartment, how much time do i have to decide if i want it?

You have some days from the date the offer was sent out to you. The last date of response can be found in the email along with the offer.

I cannot answer my offer, why?

When an offer is sent you have some days to log in and accept or decline. The last day of response can be found in the same email as the offer. If you fail to answer within the appointed time your answer will automaticly be a decline.

Where lies the student apartments.

The student dorms and apartments are basicly spread out over Gävle. For more information, please see our website or accomomodation magazine. 

I have a friend who is living on Hantverkergatan, why can´t i?

This area has ceased to be a student area, why no new students can move there. We must refer you to other student areas.

What does the accommodation guarantee mean?

As a student of the University of Gävle you are guaranteed accommodation. This does however, not mean that you can have any accommodation you want.

My room/apartment is defect or dirty, what do i do?

If you are disturbed by loud neighours or something is broken, you must contact your janitor. The student union only act as an intermediate and cannot handle questions ergarding your apartment.

My parents/my friends wants to visit me. Where can they stay?

If you are a resident of Campus Sätra you can rent guest apartments with good standard. There are also rooms avaliable at Triangeln near the center of the city.

I have a new address, should i inform anyone?

Besides from the post office and the Swedish tax agency, you should also inform the University and Gefle Student Union. 

Study-social and health

I would like to join a student club. How do i do this?

The student clubs are not connected to Gefle Student Union, but we support them.
Many of the student clubs pertain to certain alignments of education, for example. If you study to become a teacher you will probably join Geflepedagogerna, and if you study engineering you will join Gefleteknologerna.

The welcome week, or Freshman week sounds like lot´s of fun. When does it start and how do i join?

Freshman week is arranged by the student clubs and may vary from club to club. some of the activities are held separately by each club and some are common activities.

Freshman week is a great way to get to now people and make lot´s of new friends.
If you would like to attend this week, please contact any of the student clubs or ask the University/Gefle Student Union how to get in contact with a student club.

How do get into the student party-nights and the student pubs?

To attend the pubs you must be 18 years old, a member of the Gefle Student Union. Bring photo-id and your member card and show this at the door. If you are a new student and has not yet recieved your member card, you can use a temporary student card called Nollekortet. This can be provided by Gefle Student Union.

I want to bring a non-member friend to a pub night. I this possible?

Yes. Your friend can enter as your guest, but you need to report your friend in advance by signing him/her on to the guest list in the student union reception no later then 4 pm on the day of the pub night. The cost is 60 SEK per guest and additional entry fee occur at the door. 

I like to excersice and play sports. What options do i have in Gävle?

Gefle Student Union will be renting out the gymnasium on the campus area. It will be possible to book times for all kinds of sports such as basketball, badminton or floor ball and so on (not soccer however). To book times please come in to Gefle Student Union’s office in Midgård once the semester has started in late august.

If you like you can also play beachvolley next to the gymnasium. Gävle does also have a beautiful park on the oppostie side of the University where you can take a walk or go for a run.
